About

Through the project, The Life and Afterlife of Digital Devices in Academic Research, my interviews with academics revealed the complicated emotions and ambivalence they had in relation to the technology they use in their work and research. New technology is required for advances in scientific knowledge yet technology comes at environmental and social costs, and researchers were conflicted about the impacts of their technology use even though these devices were required for their work.


Using research-creation as a method, I explore this emotional and symbiotic relationship between people and their technology through photography to create this series of cyborg portraits.
